Sister Sizes Explained

If you have ever been bra shopping or spoken to a Bra Expert about sizing and fit, then you have probably heard about “sister sizes”. We have definitely mentioned them in our blog posts as well, but we wanted to take some time to actually give you some more detailed information about how sister sizing actually works.

What Does It Mean?

When we refer to a “sister” size that essentially means that by adjusting the band and/or cup, you will be able to get the same fit from a different bra size. For example, if you usually wear a 34E, but the band feels too tight, to get the same fit, but a more comfortable band, you would need to adjust your size to a 36D. So when you go up a band size, you would need to go down a cup size to get the same fit. This is also really helpful information if your usual bra size is out of stock or not available. For example, if you usually wear a 32F, we don’t have 32 bands, but you could try a 34E which would be the same fit.

How Does It Work?

Bra sizes are determined by cup volume. This is how much breast tissue can actually be held in the cup. The cup volume is a direct correlation to the size determination. Plainly, it means that the amount of weight that a cup mold can carry determines what size you will wear. However, the easiest way for you to figure out your size is actually based on your measurements. We know, that seems confusing, but it’s a lot easier than having you weigh your breasts!

Now What?

It’s always a good idea to know your sister size because it opens up more sizing options for you. If your usual size is out of stock or if you need a small sizing adjustment, the sister size is going to be your best bet.

We recommend that you use our Size Calculator as a starting point. It will guide you through measuring your band and bust to give you a result of your Trusst size.
